I wanted to say that I thought there was a case to be made for English composition being a content course of its own, especially if we think of it as addressing matters of citizenship and social justice. This is not to say that curriculum ought to be scripted or even required, but a broader claim about what it means to read and research and write–which means engaging with multiple perspectives and assessing their merits–intellectual work that almost necessarily leads to meaningful citizenship.
